About the Position
Internet Society Chapters comprise a volunteer network of ISOC individual members who are key contributors in carrying the mission of the Internet Society forward. The Manager for Chapters-Europe role requires significant interaction with Chapters and their volunteer leadership, individual members and ISOC staff to strengthen and significantly enhance the impact of the Internet Society worldwide in pursuing its mission.
The position is based in Europe, ideally located in the Geneva offices of the Internet Society, reporting to the Senior Manager for Chapters and is functionally aligned to the European Regional Bureau.
The role requires excellent communication skills, a proven track record of excellence in community building and diplomacy and the ability to multi-task in managing ISOC tools, programs and outreach to meet project deadlines that contribute to the team effort.
Responsibilities
* Working closely with the Senior Manager for Chapters and the European Regional Bureau Director, implement programmes for effective Chapter member relations, including oversight of the implementation of MoU.s, policies and procedures;
* Communicate with Chapters as required with respect to Chapter goals and plans;
* Address and resolve enquiries from Chapters and prospective Chapters;
* Implement strategies that encourage and maximise opportunities for Chapter members to contribute to the work of the Internet Society at a local level;
* Promote opportunities for engagement between Chapter and headquarters programme staff;
* Assist the Senior Manager for Chapters in developing and executing a program to improve Chapter leadership skills and increase professionalism;
* Work with other departments (Regional Bureaus, Communications, Policy, Development, Membership) in distributing Internet Society materials and in supporting Chapter outreach activities (events, expert roundtables, publications, etc.);
* Work with Chapters to develop Chapter programmes and services;
* Serve as the point of contact with Chapters regarding questions and issues related to the Internet Society membership system;
* Manage select portions of the content for the Chapter section of the website, ensuring its accuracy and currency;
* Assist in evaluating and processing applications for new Chapters;
* Plan and organize in-person and remote on-line meetings for Chapters;
* Update schedules, information and WIKI/intranet/web updates as required;
* General administrative duties including but not limited to filing, preparation of documents, mail outs, liaising with suppliers.
Desired Qualifications
* Bachelors degree;
* Minimum of 5 years of association or non-profit related experience, preferably involved with international membership and/or international chapters. In addition to international experience, it is critical that the individual understand the challenges in working with a large diverse international member and chapter base;
* Demonstrated track record of community building in a volunteer or NGO capacity;
* Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills;
* Willingness and ability to travel frequently
* Able to handle and prioritize many projects concurrently;
* Strong knowledge of IT, strong computer skills and familiarity with electronic communication applications and tools absolutely essential;
* Must have the ability to quickly gain trust of broad community and build enduring relationships across a vibrant international community;
* The ability to communicate clearly and effectively in English, both in writing and verbally is a must as well as proficiency in at least one additional language;
